"The malware threat landscape is changing rapidly and it spells tremendous opportunities for McAfee Inc, the leading antivirus and computer security firm. India is likely to play a great role to help the company meet its challenges, McAfee president and CEO David DeWalt on his first visit to India after assuming office at the Santa Clara-headquartered firm last year.
Excerpts: How has the security threat landscape changed?
The security market is very dynamic. The threat landscape has escalated. Our World Labs, which produce information about threats, reported a 10 times increase in malware — trojans, bots and the likes — in just one year. These are largely coming from emerging countries in east Europe, Latin America and south-east Asia. There are a lot of cases of identity theft and fraud. Phishing has gone up dramatically. Phreaking, where people can make free calls by illegally breaking into a telephone network and even in case of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), is there. Having diverse development centres in the US, UK and India gives us the ability to fight these threats in real time.
