Privacy groups vow to fight Microsoft-Yahoo deal

Microsoft announced that it sent an offer to Yahoo’s board of directors last Thursday, going public with the news Friday morning. Immediately, the executive directors of the Center for Digital Democracy (CDD) and the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) said the acquisition would raise serious privacy concerns.

Privacy: IP addresses could become “personal information” in Europe

The question was discussed yesterday at a hearing before the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee, where European data protection authorities and privacy advocates backed the idea. Privacy: Facebook faces privacy questions

The investigation follows a complaint by a user of the social network who was unable to fully delete their profile even after terminating their account. Currently, personal information remains on Facebook’s servers even after a user deactivates an account.

Credit card data breach could affect 650,000

GE Money, which handles credit card operations for Penney and many other retailers, said Thursday night that the missing information includes Social Security numbers for about 150,000 people.

Privacy: Group says Ask.com privacy feature is flawed

"A group of privacy advocates is asking Ask.com to make some changes to its new AskEraser feature so that it better protects consumers’ privacy when they conduct Web searches. Ask launched its AskEraser feature last week, touting it as a tool that erases traces of a consumer’s search activity within hours.
