CCleaner (previously known as CrapCleaner) is a Windows freeware tool that does an excellent job of freeing up your hard drive space by cleaning out unwanted files from your system. It protects your privacy by erasing the traces of your browser activities. CCleaner also acts as a registry cleaner. It comes highly recommended by many of the malware fighting user forums including Malware Help. Org.

Specifically it cleans the following:

"Internet Explorer
Temporary files, URL history, cookies, Autocomplete form history, index.dat.

Temporary files, URL history, cookies, download history.

Temporary files, URL history, cookies.

Recycle Bin, Recent Documents, Temporary files and Log files.

Registry cleaner
Advanced features to remove unused and old entries, including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more… also comes with a comprehensive backup feature.

Third-party applications
Removes temp files and recent file lists (MRUs) from many apps including Media Player, eMule, Kazaa, Google Toolbar, Netscape, MS Office, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and many more…"

Many of the regular users know that CCleaner is bundled with Yahoo Toolbar for some years. Although one can opt out of the toolbar installation by unchecking the pre-selected checkbox, the lay users generally prefer to click through the installation without being aware what is being installed in their systems. They are usually in a hurry to get their hands on the new software and try it out as quickly as possible.

Not many would know that in the downloads page at with a caveat that "The following builds are for system admins and advanced users" is a link to the -No Toolbar Slim version-, this link downloads the CCleaner without the Yahoo Toolbar.

It’s slim alright, checkout the difference in size 918KB to the 3.03MB for the version with bundled Yahoo Toolbar. There seems to be no difference among the regular version and the slim version other than the Yahoo Toolbar.

While the need for consideration for one’s work is absolutely reasonable and understandable, the practice of pre-checking the option pricks many loyal users.

If you do not want to install the Yahoo Toolbar with the CCleaner or like me just abhor installation any toolbar in any browser, go ahead and download the CCleaner Slim Version from any of the following links:
