Dashers sleigh delivers can of worms
You know that Christmas is truly here when the latest computer worm takes the name of one of Santa's reindeers.
Dasher, the latest threat to hit PC users, has evolved in the past two weeks from a low-risk threat into a new variant that can turn off antivirus applications, allow remote access to a computer system and scan and infect other vulnerable computers.
Auscert, Australia's computer emergency response team, said the A, B and C variants of Dasher targeted users of Windows 2000 who had not downloaded and installed a patch supplied by Microsoft in October to fix a security hole in its operating system.
