Malware Grifters, Online threats are becoming big business...
Malware, as a true new virus or some other technology that exploits some unforeseen vulnerability, is dead. That concept, which most security software businesses are built upon, is old news and well in hand. Please don't go tossing out your Norton MacAfee and Trend Micro software, though. Unfortunately, I have some bad news for you.
Though these antivirus companies know how to protect you from known and unknown viruses, most have little idea of how to protect you from yourselves. It's not all your fault (although with 30 to 40 percent of you going online without protection, as Symantec executives told me recently, maybe a large part of it is your fault). The threats we're now facing are social—social engineering to be exact. Column from PC Magazine: Malware Grifters
