Clad in jeans and a denim jacket, college student Jin Shan sips Coke and battles demons in an online fantasy game at an Internet cafe in Beijing's university district.
"Most people who come here are like me," says the 23-year-old economics major. "They like to play games or chat online, nothing more."
But every keystroke and website - however innocent - are recorded. Moves by Jin and her friends are fed into a nationwide surveillance system used to block thousands of websites and track down anyone posting material that offends government authorities.
