Beware of Trojans and bogus email
Barely six or seven years ago, anyone banking online would have faced warnings from many self-styled experts about the dangers of fraud and theft from their accounts.
Despite these concerns, few of those who do use the internet to organise their finances give much of a thought to security issues, taking it for granted that the banks themselves have the matter well in hand.
Yet according to Apacs, the banks’ payment systems trade body, the issue is far from being fully resolved. Indeed, the number of attempted and successful frauds is increasing dramatically, in a succession of waves of spam e-mails aimed at gaining the personal data needed to access customers’ bank accounts, including passwords.
