If it sounds too good to be true...With today’s onslaught of email the average online surfer has to be hyperaware sorting through the junk and deciphering a dizzying number of empty promises, warns the Better Business Bureau of the Maritime Provinces.

Criminals and con artists are reaching out over the Internet and creating information requests that look legitimate but leave readers at risk for fraud, identity theft and more, the group says in a news release.

Subject lines can promise things like a great deal, a chance to increase your income or a seemingly simple request to update your records from what looks like your bank or a government agency. The ChronicleHerald.ca
