Living Paranoid in Security
Randy Barr is quick to admit that he lives a paranoid life. As chief security officer at WebEx, the online video conferencing and collaboration services company, he has a lot to worry about. WebEx channels as many as 150,000 meetings, training sessions, and other corporate events across the Internet daily, and the company can ill afford a security breach that compromises customer data or brings down its own infrastructure.
That means Mr. Barr spends his time trying to imagine how an outside attacker or a disgruntled employee might try to penetrate WebEx’ multilayered security system. Corporate security has certainly improved over the years, but ever more imaginative cyber-criminals and hackers have shown time and time again that no system is foolproof.
