Identity Theft: 7000 DEAD MEN WALKING
CRIMINALS stole the identities of 7000 dead Scots last year - to commit fraud worth millions of pounds. The scale of the scam has been exposed by private fraud experts, who discovered it cost Scots businesses around £3million. The revelations follow crime figures last month which show fraud in Scotland has reached an all-time high, with cases up 20 per cent in the last year to 18,307. The scam - nicknamed "faking the dead" - is the fastest growing crime in the country with more than 20 fake identities being created each day.
